I currently work at the Hattiesburg Convention Commission, a mouthful I know, as a Graphic Designer and Web Specialist. I graduated in May 2023 with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design from the University of Southern Mississippi, To the Tippity Top. USM taught me the fundamentals and basics of being a designer, how to use my creativity to fuel my passions, and that a person can survive with very little sleep and can accumulate several parking tickets every semester. Those skills have transferred to my big-girl job, besides the parking tickets, we have employee parking.

I have a pretty generic “graphic design origin story,” so I’ll tell the bullet point version.

– I didn’t know what I wanted major in.

– Beloved art teacher suggested that I look into graphic design.

– Talked to my parents about it. They liked that idea and the fact that I finally chose a major and were a step closer to figuring out what I wanted to do with my life.

– Teachers were happy. Parents were happy. I was happy I didn’t have that pressure on me anymore.

– I love graphic design.

But for real, I have always loved the arts, both visual and performance. I grew up dancing, literally, I have danced all my life. And I am a proud Dixie Darling Alumn. For those who might not know, the DDs are USM’s danceteam #DDTTT. I also really love music. I have no musical talent myself, unless you count an Elvis Presley impression, but I just love listening to music all day every day. I like a wide variety of genres and decades, except probably sream-o, just not my cup of tea. But I am especially into 70s-80s rock. My dog’s name is Stevie Nicks if that tells you anything. But my interest in other areas of art makes me truly believe that all forms of art integrate with each other, and I like to use this integration to inspire and pull from for my work.

I also am inspired by vintage and retro things in general and often use those inspirations in my designs. I also LOVE a good collage and mixing mediums, if you haven’t noticed. I honestly just love graphic design.
